The Providence Pilots Men's Volleyball team is the first Providence team to experience the CCAA National tournament. In only the second season nationally eligible, the Pilots entered the CCAA tournament as the 8th seed, facing off with the reigning national champions the Camosun Chargers. The Pilots were able to take the first set 25-22 before falling to the eventual National champions, 1-3.
The Pilots met a familiar friend, the Briercrest Clippers, in the "back door bronze" match. The Clippers looked dominant from start to finish taking down the Pilots 0-3, moving on to win Bronze. In their final match of the tournament, the Pilots met College Sainte-Anne. Once again, Providence was able to take the opening set, in dominant fashion 25-17. Les Dragons responded winning the next 3 tightly contested sets. The Pilots may not have won a match, but they were able to win 2 sets, more than any MCAC team has done this far.
The Pilots didn't come home empty handed. After 3 intense matches that displayed the heart and character of the Pilots program, the team was selected for the CCAA Exemplary Leadership Award.
"The Exemplary Leadership Award is given to an individual or a team at the CCAA National Championships who demonstrates leadership behaviors that set an example for others to follow. Recipients must have respect for the rules and spirit of the rules of the sport in pursuit of excellence, respect the officials and show acceptance of their decisions, respect the opponent, exhibit sportsmanlike behaviors and maintain dignity under all circumstances.
The National Convenor monitors play throughout the competition and along with the Awards Committee on site, selects the recipient. They may also solicit the input of officials. Coaches and teams may also nominate a player or team.
The Exemplary Leadership Award is presented during the closing Ceremonies at CCAA National Championships."
The Pilots Men's Volleyball team has made us proud of their representation of our Providence Community.
