After 13 seasons in Collegiate Navy, Kyle Guenther is stepping down as head coach of the Pilots women’s volleyball team. Guenther spent 6 seasons assisting head coach Scott Masterson. The dynamic duo combined for 10 championships while coaching together. Their teams captured 4 MCAC titles and 6 NCCAA North Region banners. The program attended the NCCAA National tournament every year.

In 2016, Guenther took over the program, which at the time had become one of the strongest programs in the NCCAA. In his first year as head coach his team combined for a 35-8 record and landed in the NCCAA National championship game after capturing the program’s 9th regional banner. The 2 seeded Pilots would fall to the top seeded Maranatha Sabercats. This would be the final NCCAA North Region banner that the Pilots would claim.

The following season the Pilots would go 27 and 12 capturing the program’s most recent MCAC title. Guenther coached one USport player in Sara Barker, who was instrumental in his early coaching success. Barker played 3 seasons for coach Guenther helping him win both the 2016-17 MCAC banner and the 2017-18 NCCAA North Region Banner.

Guenther would reach the century mark on September 17, 2022 in a win against Olds College. Now, in his final season, the team is 7 and 5 in conference play and riding a 2 game winning streak, both against the rival Blazers. The Pilots have 6 games remaining and are starting to play their best volleyball of the season.

Providence will begin the pursuit of Guenther’s replacement in the days to come.
