Junior Pilots Club Volleyball

The Junior Pilots Volleyball Club at Providence gives athletes ages 13-18 the opportunity to play highly competitive volleyball while developing skills, theory, teamwork, leadership and character. The program fosters athletic excellence while focusing on personal growth—on and off the court. We’re committed to making the southeast region strong in the sport of volleyball and to helping advance our players’ athletic careers. Our Junior Pilots teams routinely medal at provincial and national championships and are guided by qualified, experienced coaches who live out the mission of Providence. In addition, each year volleyball players who have represented the Junior Pilots club program are recruited by college-level squads including Providence!

TRYOUTS

Do I have to pay twice if my child is going to two Jr. Pilots tryouts? (ex. 13U Girls and 14U Girls)

Yes, each registration fee of $40 includes all 3 tryouts for one age group. If you are signing up for two different age groups, you will need to pay $40 for each, making it a total of $80 for 6 tryouts (3 sessions for each age group).

My child can only go to 2 tryouts, is that okay?

Yes. It is expected that an athlete make it a priority to make it to at least 2 of 3 tryouts. However, it is encouraged that all three tryouts are attended. Coaches and evaluators get the most accurate and fair evaluation of each player if they attend as many sessions as possible. For this reason, we recommend that athletes make it a priority to attend all 3 sessions.

Can my child tryout for a different age group other than their own?

A child can tryout for any group as long as they fall under the minimum age requirement for that age group. Age categories can be found under the “Age Categories” tab.

For example: a child that falls under the minimum 13U Age category of: September 1, 2010 - December 31, 2011 could also tryout for any age group older (14U, 15U, 16U etc.)

When will we find out if athletes made the team?

Every athlete will get an email by December 16, 2023 from a coach, stating that they made, or did not make a Jr. Pilots volleyball team. Coaches may also choose to call athletes in addition to an email to offer a spot.

Can the parent(s)/guardian(s) watch tryouts?

Spectators will not be allowed in the gym during tryouts. Parent(s)/Guardian(s) can come in to register the child but will not be allowed to stay once tryouts have started.

Who decides who makes the teams? If my child didn’t play Jr. Pilots last year, do they have less of a chance of making it?

Our teams are made by head coaches, assistant coaches, as well as a minimum of 2 outside (non-bias) evaluators that have no relation or connection to players on the team. The team is made based on work ethic, skill, athleticism, and positions.

THE SEASON

How much does the season cost?

Tentative budgets specific to each age group are provided at each tryout with a breakdown of what goes into the cost. Budgets range from $1300-$1700 but are subject to change. Payment plans are available to make this commitment and investment as stress-free as possible on all families.

What is included in the cost?

Mandatory clothing fees, gym rental fees, tournament entry, provincial registration cost, and national registrations are all included in the cost. Things that are not included in the cost: travel (gas, flights), accommodations (hotels) and coaches’ travel and accommodation for out of town tournaments.

How long is the season?

Club Volleyball runs for roughly 5 months, from January to May depending on the team, and on Provincial and National Championship dates.

How much does the team practice?

Where are practices held?

Practices are held in various locations around Southeastern Manitoba. Locations such as: Providence University College, Niverville, Steinbach, Mitchell, New Bothwell, Landmark, Grunthal, St. Pierre and more…

Is there a league they play in?

The results of these tournaments determine Provincial rankings which then determine National Rankings/Division Placements.

Where and when are tournaments?
